  3. Habitat: Pacific cod is found in the cold, temperate waters of the North Pacific Ocean, particularly in the Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska, and along the coasts of Russia, Japan, and Canada. It inhabits both shallow coastal waters and deeper offshore areas, often near the seabed.
  4. Diet: Pacific cod is a carnivorous fish that feeds primarily on smaller fish, such as herring, capelin, and sand lance, as well as crustaceans, squid, and other marine organisms.
  5. Lifecycle: Pacific cod undergoes an annual spawning migration, with spawning typically occurring in late winter or early spring. After spawning, the fertilized eggs are released into the water column, where they drift with the currents until hatching. Juvenile cod then settle in shallow coastal areas, where they grow and mature before migrating to deeper offshore waters as adults.
  6. Commercial Importance: Pacific cod is one of the most economically important fish species in the North Pacific Ocean and supports valuable commercial fisheries in countries such as the United States (particularly in Alaska), Russia, Japan, and Canada. It is harvested for its delicious, mild-flavored flesh, which is popular in both domestic and international seafood markets.
